On the evening of January 29, 2024, six-year-old Hind Rajab was living her final moments in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza, unaware that her desperate cry would echo around the world—too late to save her.
While trying to flee the horrors of Israeli shelling with her family, their car was targeted by an Israeli tank. Her mother and family members were killed instantly, leaving Hind trapped and alone amidst the wreckage and chaos.
With a trembling voice and the fear of a child lost in war, she called the Palestinian Red Crescent, pleading, “I’m very scared, please come.” But her cries were drowned out by the relentless bombardment. Paramedics attempted to reach her, but Israeli tanks opened fire on them too, killing them before they could help.
For 12 days, Hind remained trapped—without food, without water—while the world anxiously wondered about her fate. In the end, her tiny body was found beside those who were once her protection—her family, and the medics who died trying to save her.
Hind’s cry still echoes in hearts today, a painful reminder of the innocence crushed before the eyes of the world, and the unending suffering of Gaza’s children.
