Dr. Khalid Al-Shammasi, an assistant professor at Sultan Qaboos University and a consultant in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy, showed extraordinary courage during the Israeli assault on Rafah, Gaza.
Despite heavy bombardment and the destruction of most hospitals, Dr. Al-Shammasi refused to leave the European Gaza Hospital.
While local Palestinian doctors were forced to evacuate after receiving direct threats, he and a few international volunteers stayed behind — determined to care for the critically ill and injured.

Facing continuous shelling and a collapsing healthcare system, Dr. Khalid Al-Shammasi stood firm, driven by his deep sense of medical and ethical duty.
His bravery and compassion embody the true spirit of humanity and solidarity, offering hope where it is needed most.
